Early October in 2019, Grenache Blanc grapes were harvested at the neighbor vineyard. We've been so spoiled by Grenache Blanc since 2016 by earning amazing awards from large wine competitions in California. We have to say these are one of our favorite grapes.

Cabernet Franc vines that we replanted after Syrah vines were growing very well thanks to vineyard workers.
シラーの木のあとに植えられたカベルネ・フランは、ぶどう畑の作業員さんたちのおかげで、とても元気に育っていました。
In the middle of October, a Golden Retriever puppy has arrived. The breeder drove all the way from Idaho to drop off this puppy at our house in California, since they don't ship their puppies. This puppy was named Makana, that means 'a gift' in Hawaiian language. He was really a gift to our family after Kona passed away.
10月半ば、ゴールデンレトリバーのパピーが到着しました。ブリーダーさんはパピーのシッピングをしない方々なので、アイダホ州から私たちの家のあるカリフォルニア州までパピーを送るため、運転してきてくださいました。このパピーは、マカナと名付けられました。ハワイ語で、”ギフト”という意味です。コナが亡くなったあと、私たち家族にとってマカナは本当に、ギフトでした。
Makana was the tiniest Golden Retriever puppy we've ever seen. He was only eight or nine weeks old when he arrived. Do you remember a photo of the possum from last week? Don't you think Makana in this photo looks like that possum?

He got to see the first harvest in the wine country. This was probably the beginning of his journey as a winery dog.
ワインカントリーで、初めての収穫を見学できました。これが多分、ワイナリードッグとしての旅の始まりだったのでしょうね。
Around the same time. we harvested Zinfandel grapes from the neighbor vineyard. Big clusters, and dark-skinned berries. These grapes make great wine, and many people who visit our tasting room say that they like Zinfandel.
同時期、私たちは、ご近所のぶどう畑でジンファンデルを収穫しました。房が大きく、濃い色の皮をした粒のぶどうです。これらのぶどうは素晴らしいワインを作るので、テイスティングルームを訪れてくれる大半の方々が、ジンファンデルを好きだとおっしゃいます。
In November, our tasting room had a Grand Opening. There were so many people who visited our tasting room, and my husband and I were very excited. I see two very familiar people in this photo. One became our staff, and the other one works for us as a musician now. Of course, we didn't know that would happen to us at that time.
11月、テイスティングルームでは、グランドオープニングを迎えました。たくさんの方々がテイスティングルームを訪れてくださり、主人も私もとてもワクワクしました。写真の中に、見覚えのある方が二人います。ひとりは私たちのスタッフとなり、もうひとりは、現在ミュージシャンとして私たちのために仕事をしてくれています。もちろん、当時はそんなことになるなんて、知りもしませんでした。
Just before Christmas, there was one tragic happening at the tasting room. The neighbor business caused the flood in our tasting room, and most of the things got soaking wet. Our brand new tasting room was taped and banned to be entered. It was a real tragedy...
クリスマスを直前に迎えたころ、テイスティングルームにある悲劇が起きました。ご近所のビジネスが、テイスティングルームを大量のお水で浸水させてしまい、ほとんどのものがびしょびしょに濡れてしまいました。私たちの新品のテイスティングルームにはテープが貼られ、入ることを禁じられました。本当に悲劇でした‥‥
The different neighbor restaurant invited us for dinner to comfort us that night. My husband sat down without a word and I cried a lot with no voice at the table. We were told that everything that was wet needs to be thrown away and replaced to the new ones including our brand new counter, of course.
別のご近所のレストランは、私たちを慰めるため、その日のディナーに招待してくださいました。主人は一言も話さずただ座り、私はテーブルで声なく泣きました。濡れてしまったものはすべて捨て、新しいものに買い換えなければいけないと言われました。もちろん、新品のカウンターも含めてです。
In January, 2020, most of the things from the tasting room were taken away except the ones that didn't get wet. There was no time to waste. We did our best to do it again from the beginning.
2020年1月、濡れなかったものを除き、テイスティングルームのほとんどものが取り出されました。無駄にしている時間はありません。また最初からのやり直しに、尽力しました。
New sink, new cabinet and new counter. Another brand new stuff delivered in one by one. While we were waiting for reopening the tasting room, my husband and I made the business plan for the new year of 2020. Candle making class, dessert weekend and more events. After getting over one tragedy together, we became a little stronger.
新しいシンク、新しいキャビネット、そして新しいカウンター。また新品なものがひとつひとつ、運び込まれていきました。テイスティングルームをリオープンできる日を待っている間、主人と私は、新しい2020年という年のビジネスプランを組みました。キャンドルメーキングクラス、デザートウィーケンド、などイベント色々です。悲劇をひとつ一緒に超えて、私たちは少し強くなりました。
We've been taking care of Hana, too. She was two years old at that time. My husband and I were talking often what we can do with Hana in the future, and it was our happy time.
ハナのお世話もしていました。この当時、ハナは２歳でした。将来ハナと一緒に何ができるかよく主人と私で話し合いましたが、それは幸せな時間でした。
When I was vacuuming the family room, I found Makana's tooth! These little happy times from our fur babies supported our mental part before reopening the tasting room.
ファミリールームに掃除機をかけていた時、マカナの歯を見つけました！ こういう毛の生えたうちの子たちからの幸せな時間が、テイスティングルームをリオープンする前の私たちの心を支えてくれていました。
Finally, the reopening time had come! We brought the new technique to keep the wine fresh and introduced the new events that we were going to do in 2020. People started to come back to us, and we were very happy to pour for them. Who guessed the next tough challenge was waiting for us around the corner?
ようやく、リオープンの時がやってきました！ ワインをフレッシュに保つテクニックも取り入れ、2020年に行う予定の新しいイベントも紹介しました。私たちのところに人も帰ってきてくれて、その方々にワインを注げることをとても幸せに思っていました。次の厳しい試練がもうそこまでやって来ていることなど、誰が想像したでしょうか。
