May 1, 2019. We started to demolition ourselves at the future tasting room. Both my husband and I were very excited. My husband did a great job on opening up the room and ceiling. The contractor started to work soon after.
2019年、5月。未来のテイスティングルームに向けて、自分たちでデモを始めました。主人も私も、とてもワクワクしていました。主人は、部屋の壁や天井を破るのにとても頑張りました。コントラクターさんがその後すぐ、工事を始めてくれました。
These are the vines of Petite Sirah in our vineyard. After four years since we replanted Roussane to Petite Sirah in 2015, the vines were growing very well.
これらは、ぶどう畑のプティシラーの木々です。2015年にルーサンヌからプティシラーに植え替えてから4年経ち、ぶどうの木々はとても順調に育っていました。
We LOVED our Estate Syrah, and it was hard to make that decision. But we decided to replant Syrah to Cabernet Franc since the production was getting low. I was sad to see the tractor going through the vineyard, and destroying the vines that we were taking care of since 2014. But this was all for good.
私たちは、自社畑で造るシラーが本当に大好きだったので、この決断をするのは難しいことでしたが、シラーのぶどうの収穫量が減ってきてきたので、カベルネフランに植え替えることを決めました。トラクターがぶどう畑を通り、私たちが2014年から手入れしてきたぶどうの木々を壊していくのを見るのは、悲しかったです。でもすべては良いことのためです。
Chicks who joined our family in early spring were growing well. In May, they started to live in the small chicken coop in front of the big chicken coop. If we suddenly put chicks in the big coop and let them live with big hens, these chicks might get attacked by big ones. It's good to give them some time to get to know each other little by little as a neighbor.
春先に我が家の家族になったひよこたちは、順調に育っていました。5月、大きなにわとり小屋の目の前にある小さなにわとり小屋に住み始めました。急に大きなにわとり小屋にひよこたちを入れて、大きな雌鳥たちと一緒に住まわせると、ひよこたちは雌鳥たちに攻撃されてしまうかもしれません。少し時間を持ち、ご近所さんとして少しずつ知り合っていくのがいい方法です。
The vines started to have flowers. These become baby grapes later.
ぶどうの木々に、花が咲き始めました。これらは後に、小さなぶどうになります。
One weekend, we took our Golden Retrievers, Kona & Ehinme to the beach. Kona moved from Hawaii with us, and he was a real water dog. We thought this would be a fun family activity to do. We never thought this would be the last swimming for our sweet Kona.
ある週末、私たちはゴールデンレトリバーのコナとえひめをビーチに連れて行きました。コナは、私たちと一緒にハワイから引っ越して来た子で、素晴らしいウォータードッグでした。ビーチに行くことは、楽しいファミリーアクティビティだと思っていました。まさかこれが、大好きなコナにとって最後の泳ぎになるだなんて思いもしませんでした。
In June, before bottling wine, we tested for blending and did some (or a lot of) tastings. This is the very important process, because this is the decision for the taste of wine in the bottle that you are going to have. We taste, take notes, change the percentage of blending, and taste more. We taste again some hours later, so that we can taste wine after airing.

While the contractor was working on our tasting room, we chose photos to advertise in the local magazine. Dogs & wine. You see where our passion is coming from, right? 😁

Thanks to the vineyard workers, Cabernet Sauvignon vines were growing very well, too. This is thinning, which is the process to regulate the crop yield.
ぶどう畑の作業員さんたちのおかげで、カベルネソーヴィニヨンもとても順調に育っていました。写真はツルの間引きをしているところです。これは、収穫量を調整するプロセスです。
At the end of July, plants arrived. These are Cabernet Franc to be planted in the area where Syrah vines were.
7月の終わり、苗が到着しました。これらはカベルネフラン、シラーのぶどうの木があったところに植える苗です。
August 8th, 2019. We opened our brand new tasting room in Atascadero (near Paso Robles), California! This was our dream since we became a winery. And this tiny tasting room became our castle. Our Golden Retrievers, Kona & Ehime started to work with us as winery dogs. It was the beginning of our new journey, and everything seemed to be shiny until Kona had to go to the emergency.
2019年8月8日、カリフォルニア州アタスカデロ（パソロブレス近郊）という町に、真新しいテイスティングルームをオープンしました！ これは私たちがワイナリーになって以来の夢でした。そして、この小さなテイスティングルームは、私たちのお城となりました。ゴールデンレトリバーのコナとえひめは、ワイナリードッグとして私たちと共に働き始めました。私たちの新しい旅の始まりで、すべてがキラキラ輝いているように見えました。コナが救急に運ばれるまでは。
We knew Kona's health was declining, but we didn't think that the day would come that quickly. Only three days after we opened the tasting room, Kona passed away because of his kidney issue. Kona was our special American Golden Retriever who came from Hawaii with us. We never ever wanted to let him go, so it was very difficult for us to accept the fact he left us.
コナの健康が損なわれていることはわかっていましたが、その日があんなに早くやって来るとは思ってもみませんでした。テイスティングルームをオープンした3日後、コナは腎臓の病気で亡くなりました。コナは一緒にハワイから連れて来た、 私たちの特別なアメリカンゴールデンレトリバーでした。絶対に逝かせたくないと思っていたので、コナがこの世を去ってしまった事実を受け入れるのは、私たちにはとても難しいことでした。
He loved everyone in the world, he loved peace more than anybody. We love you, Kona.
コナは、世界中のすべての人のことが大好きで、誰よりも平和が大好きでした。コナ、大好きだよ。
