February, 2019. We saw the frost on the backyard fence, and it was a very cold winter.
2019年、2月。裏庭のフェンスに霜が見え、とても寒い冬でした。
We sometimes get problems when the temperature goes down. One of them is broken irrigation. Do you see the water splashing out? I remember I saw it from the kitchen window. I soon went to call my husband who was working in the office.
気温が下がると、時々問題が起きることもあります。そのひとつは、灌漑用水が壊れることです。お水が吹き出しているのが見えるでしょうか？ 私はこれを、キッチンの窓から見たことを覚えています。すぐに、オフィースで仕事をしていた主人を呼びに行きました。
My husband got the new parts and fixed the irrigation quickly. We are very lucky we live on the vineyard. Otherwise, we couldn't notice the problem until the vineyard worker arrived.
主人は新しいパーツを得て、手早く灌漑用水の修理をしました。ぶどう畑に住んでいて、本当にラッキーです。さもなければ、ぶどう畑の作業員さんが到着するまで、問題があることに気づかなかったでしょうから。
In March, almond trees nearby started to bloom. I love these flowers, since they look like Japanese cherry blossom.
3月になり、近くのアーモンドの木に、花が咲き始めました。私はアーモンドの花が大好きです。日本の桜の花に似ていますから。
We welcomed four new chicks. We named them Mele, Kali, Ki, Maka. Do you know the meaning of this, right? Mele Kalikimaka means "Merry Christmas" in Hawaiian language.
４匹の新しいひよこを迎えました。この子たちは、メレ、カリ、キ、マカと名付けられました。この意味、お分かりでしょうか？ メレカリキマカはハワイ語で、”メリークリスマス”です。
Vines in the vineyard got pruned. Beginning of the new season is always exciting.
ぶどう畑のぶどうの木々が、剪定されました。新しいシーズンの始まりは、いつもワクワクします。
When we went to get Vietnamese food in Atascadero, we got to see this place is for lease. When my husband said "You know this street is becoming very popular", something clicked in my head. We contacted the realtor and went to see the inside of the building.
アタスカデロでベトナム料理を食べに行ったときのことです。私たちは、この場所がリースになっていることを知りました。主人が「このストリート、とても人気が出て来ているんだよ。」と言ったとき、私の頭で何かがクリックしました。私たちは不動産屋さんに連絡をとり、ビルの中を見せて頂きました。
As a winery, one of the things we really wanted to do was a Winemaker's Dinner. LaDonna's that is our neighbor business restaurant now worked with us, and made amazing a six-course-dinner for our guests. It was one memorable dinner. We'll never forget what LaDonna's did for us, and we'll never forget how beautiful that night was.
ワイナリーとしてやりたかったことのひとつは、ワインメイカーズディナーです。今では私たちのご近所となったレストラン、ラドンナズが私たちに協力して下さり、ゲストのために、素晴らしい６コースのディナーを創作してくれました。ラドンナズが私たちのためにしてくれたこと、ずっと忘れません。そして、あの素晴らしい夜のことも、ずっと忘れません。
All these challenges and experience made us a winery little by little.
こういうすべてのチャレンジと経験が、私たちを少しずつワイナリーにしてくれました。
Since the temperature went up and it was getting warmer outside, we decided to let the chicks live in the small coop outside. They started to live with other mature hens as a neighbor.
気温が上がり、外がだんだん暖かくなって来たので、ひよこたちを外の小さなにわとり小屋で住まわせることにしました。ひよこたちは、大人の雌鳥たちと、ご近所さんとして暮らし始めました。
My husband & I often talked about what we want to be like as a winery in the future. We could continue pouring at the local hotels as we did for three years, but we also wanted to root in the community as a winery. It was a desire to reach the higher place to our goal, too.
主人と私はよく、将来ワイナリーとしてどのようになっていたいか、話し合いました。3年間やってきたように、地元のホテルでワインテイスティングをし続けることもできましたが、私たちには、ワイナリーとしてコミュニティーに根づきたいという思いもありました。それは、自分たちのゴールに向かって、高い場所に届きたいという欲望でもありました。
In the late April, we signed the contract to rent the building we saw before. My husband & I decided to open our own wine tasting room in this little adorable place.
4月後半、私たちは、以前見学したビルを借りる契約書にサインをしました。主人と私は、この小さくて可愛らしい場所に、自分たちのワインテイスティングルームをオープンすることに決めたのです。
We started to do demolition ourselves at the beginning. Do you know which wall we are breaking down in this picture. You see the front doors behind my husband, right? There was the wall nearby. We broke down the wall and the ceiling, and made the open space for people to enjoy.
私たちは最初、自分たちでデモを始めました。この写真で、どこの壁を壊しているかお分かり頂けるでしょうか？ 主人の後ろに、フロントドアが見えるでしょう？ 近くに、壁があったんですよ。私たちは壁や天井を取っ払い、皆様がくつろげるようにとオープンスペースを作りました。
